50th Anniversary Open Day at Middlewich depot

Thomas Hardie Used Trucks were delighted to throw open the gates of our Middlewich depot on October 4th so that all of our friends, partners and customers could come down and join in the celebration of Volvo Trucks’ 50th anniversary supplying to the UK market.

As one of the UK’s leading dealers in used Volvo Trucks, we were thrilled to join in with the festivities marking half a century of the brand selling to the UK market – something we also do via Thomas Hardie Commercials, for customers who want to order brand new Volvo Trucks.

So at 10am we welcomed our first guests of the day to our Ride and Drive Event, a six-hour celebration of all aspects of Volvo Trucks, complete with a look at some of the most modern models currently available from the brand.

Ailsa 50th Anniversary Volvo Truck

One of the models on display was Ailsa, a Volvo FH 16 750 resplendent in special 50th anniversary livery, and if you take a look on our social media channels you can see some of the special anniversary artwork that was added to the side panels of the trucks on show.

Other models involved in the day’s activities ranged from an FL 4×2 Curtain Rigid and an FH 6×2 Tractor used truck to an FM 11 8×4 410 Tipper, and they weren’t just there to be looked at.

We were also able to run demonstrations of the vehicles’ capabilities throughout the day, while capable drivers who visited us during the event were given the chance to try their cabins and cockpits first-hand – hence why it was a Ride and Drive Event.

Used Volvo Truck Deals

As part of the one-day celebration, we put together some excellent deals on used Volvo Trucks, as well as some goodie bags of merchandise for the people who made it in person to visit us in Middlewich.

But we’re committed to offering the best used Volvo Truck deals not just for one day, but every day, and we would encourage anyone who is interested in getting a nearly new Volvo Truck at the best possible price to get in touch with us to find out what we have available.

Our truck sourcing service is also on your side if you need something specific but can’t seem to find it for sale – we have plenty of partners and long-term customers and are happy to do some digging to find out what might be available despite not yet being officially on the market.

And we provide goodie bags of Volvo merchandise with every completed purchase, so that you have the ideal accessories to keep you comfortable in the cabin of your new Volvo Truck.

October 4th was a special celebration of 50 years of Volvo Trucks in the UK, but it doesn’t have to be an anniversary for us to welcome visitors – we’re always more than happy to take enquiries, whether you want to make a firm purchase or just want to ask us a general question.

High Peak, Derbyshire-based Environ have put the company’s first two Volvo trucks into service.

Environ are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of activated carbon for gas cleaning, as well as design and build of complete systems for the treatment of landfill gas, digester gas from anaerobic digester plants, sewage gas, gas to grid, odour control and treatment of contaminated waste and wastewater.

Supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials at Trafford Park, Manchester, the XL Globetrotter-cabbed FH-540 6×2 tag-axle tractor units transport bespoke trailers fitted with 7.5 metre long vessels, each of which contains 10-tonnes (20m³) of activated carbon and graphite pellets, which are used to clean gas emissions on landfill sites. These vessels, which are manufactured by Environ, are exchanged on site and the spent media is then discharged at the Environ works and the vessel refilled.

The vessels are manufactured with a stainless steel inner wall and insulated with a mild steel outer casing. The new Volvo trucks deliver the vessels to sites around the UK and Ireland. The cleaned gas is used on the sites to generate electricity, which is sold to the National Grid.

Environ Director Daniel Stringfellow explains that Thomas Hardie Commercials won the business thanks to the competitive contract hire costs and the ability of the dealership to meet the company’s exacting quality and customer service standards.

The latest of two new Volvo FM-330 6×2 rear-steer Rear End Loaders to enter service with leading Manchester recycling and waste management company Fresh Start Waste Services, has been named after World and Multiple British Arm-Wrestling Champion ‘Agy G’.

Fresh Start Waste Services have been sponsoring World Championship Gold medal winner Agy Gorzynska for three years and Chief Operating Officer Peter Cooke reports that the company is delighted with the overwhelmingly positive media and social media coverage that the deal has generated.

The new 3.9 metre wheelbase FMs were supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials at Trafford Park and are fitted with Volvo’s 11-litre diesel rated at 330hp and I-Shift automated gearboxes and the specification includes Volvo’s Load Indicator and medium height chassis for improved ground clearance.

Peter Cooke explains that Fresh Start Waste returned to Volvo vehicles for this purchasing round after an absence of almost 10 years, thanks to the competitive price, the 7-year Gold Repair & Maintenance Contract and the customer service levels by saying, “Volvo is a proven, reliable product and we have had good service from the dealer, Thomas Hardie Commercials.”
